Restoring Hope After the Floods

The devastating floods that swept through Accra and surrounding communities on June 29th 2026 left many families without food, shelter, and essential household items. Among the hardest hit were mothers caring for children with developmental disabilities, whose caregiving responsibilities became even more challenging in the aftermath of the disaster.

In response, the Africa Centre for Democracy and Socio-Economic Development (CDS Africa), with the support of its partners and donors, provided emergency relief to affected families. The assistance included food, household supplies, cement for basic repairs, hygiene materials, and other essential items to help families recover.

More than meeting immediate needs, the intervention restored hope and dignity. It eased the burden on mothers, improved household wellbeing, and enabled them to continue providing the care their children needed while beginning the journey toward rebuilding their lives.
